The 2nd of June Italy feasts the birth of the Italian Republic.
The day commemorates the institutional referendum held by universal suffrage in 1946, in which the Italian people were called to the polls to decide on the form of government (Monarchy or Republic). This was the first institutional referendum held by universal suffrage. The 18th of June 1946 the results of the referendum were declared by the Court of Appeal: Italy will be a Republic.
