Since ancient times, from the Etruscans to the Romans, perhaps introduced by the Greek civilization, the oil was first used for lighting and for cosmetics and later as food. At the beginning of '500 was a true primary resource. Today the Tuscan oils in Italy do not prevail for the amount, accounting for only 4% of national production, but for the absolute quality, and contributed greatly to the image Italian oil in the world. It's important, however, to say that about 50% of D.O.P. oils and Italian I.G.P. oil are Tuscan. There are many events in the months of October, November and December in our country related to the famous 'Olio Novo', pride of every Tuscan olive grower. Among the most important are 'Il Tempo dell'Olio' in Sarteano from 7th to 11th December or 'La Festa dell'Olio' in San Quirico D'Orcia 8th to 11th December, where, among markets, installations and, in particular, tastings, you can taste and buy this unique product.
