Italian style New Year’s Eve between traditions and superstitions.

The 31st December is coming and every Italian is preparing himself for the typical traditions and rites to spend the last night of the year in the best way as possible with propitiatory gestures or actions to wish good luck and wealth!

PANFORTE

Between game and tradition

The Panforte is a traditional Tuscan Christmas cake deriving from “panpepato” (peppered bread) or “pan mielato” (honey bread) which origins date back the 13th century. Its name come from its legendary recipe: at a mixture made of flour, water and honey were added dried fruits and seasonal roasted fruits whose damp created a mould inside responsible of the strong and acid taste of the cake. That is the reason why the caked was called “panem fortis”, strong bread. The recipe then was changed during the visit of Queen Margherita in Siena in the 1879 with a softer taste and with the addition of vanilla
